How to care for your bonded hair replacement system

Hair replacement systems are hand crafted natural based products. This is part of the beauty of a custom hair system. Every hair system is unique from one to the next. Highly skilled & trained individuals create hair to individual specifications.

There are many ways in which a hair system can be adhered to the scalp & certain adhesives require different care. Always allow the adhesives to cure for 24 hours before washing or participating in activities that would cause perspiration. This will prolong the life of the bond.

Care of your hair replacement system begins with using the proper products that are recommended to care for the base, adhesive & hair.

Hair systems are expected to shed over time. Gentle brushing with a "wet brush" will help prolong the life of your new hair. Only brushes with balls on the end of the bristles should be used to brush your hair system at the base. On hair systems with longer locks, start at the end of the strand & work your way up to remove tangles and reduce stress on the hair and the base. Remember, this is still hair and it is fragile. Split ends can occur if hair is stressed.

Hair replacement systems should be shampooed with a gentle product specifically recommended to care for this type of hair. Be cautious of products that contain waxes & synthetic oils as they may loosen the knots and cause excessive shedding. It is best to shampoo with warm or cool water instead of hot. Conditioner should only be put on the mid shaft and ends of hair, never at the base.

A light leave-in conditioner is recommended to help keep the hair conditioned and tangle free. Color fade can be expected as the hair is processed with special color to achieve a custom color match. Leave on conditioners that have UV blockers will help keep the color vibrant longer.

Do not sleep with your hair wet. This can cause matting and breakage as well as shifting. Using a satin or silk pillowcase while sleeping will reduce friction and help prolong the life of your hair system. For longer locks, we recommend a sleep cap or putting your hair in a loose braid this will help prevent tangles and pulling.

If systems are adhered by using the taping method, be cautious when removing the tape. This causes stress on the base and may pull out hair. To help prolong the life of your hair system, you can lightly dab alcohol on the tape surface to reactivate the tacky surface instead of removing the tape every time. We recommend only doing this one time between reapplications. When doing a full removal, gently pull tape from the system base and begin again with a fresh tape application. Adhesive remover helps reduce the stress placed on a system during this process.

Your new hair is an investment in you. Each hair system is unique and may require different techniques for the care. Please be sure to check with your technician for the best care practices of your specific type of base construction, adhesive and customized specifications.

Testimonials

  • My experience with Images started in July of 2003. It has been a very positive experience. The process has given me confidence about myself. At first I was like most people thinking, this can't work for me. But after a few visits, everything just seemed to work for me. I enjoy seeing and working with the technicians. They are kind and care about the way I look and feel. I urge anyone who is looking to improve their looks and feel good about themselves to give Images a try.
