Metro Detroit Women's Hair Loss Seminar
On August 3, 2016, Images International hosted the first annual Metro Detroit Women's Hair Loss Seminar. The seminar was intended to educate women on the causes of hair loss and the solutions that are available to women experiencing all stages of thinning hair or hair loss.
Former Miss Delaware, Kayla Martell, was a keynote speaker, explaining her journey with alopecia areata. Her inspirational message touched all of us as she explained that she was not phased by society's pressure to wear hair, in fact, she even competed in pageants without hair, but she has found that she simply feels more confident with hair and she chooses to wear it so she feels feminine and beautiful.
We were very happy to have our own client, Naomi, give her story. She shared that she experienced hair loss from a young age. While her sisters had thick, pretty hair, she was not so lucky and often felt there was something wrong with her. She felt that people treated her differently. After wearing extensions and wigs she finally found Images and has been a client for over a decade.
It was remarkable to see how many women related to the feelings of Kayla and Naomi. So many women experience hair loss whether it is caused by an autoimmune condition like Kayla, genetics like Naomi or even menopause like Pamela, the salon owner who also shared her story. The support was strong in the room and the women left with bonds they created over an unfortunate problem they are all experiencing.
After the presentation each of the women had an opportunity to have a hair and scalp analysis. During their consultation they received a recommendation based on the scalp analysis for the appropriate treatment or solution.
One sentiment many of the women conveyed is how happy they were to know there is something they can do. They do not need to feel self conscious about the way their hair looks. Whether they were ready to address it that evening or if they need some time to think about taking the next steps they were appreciative there is help available.
We are so happy to have met all of the special women that attended the seminar who decided to take the first step to get their hair back. The night was a success on many levels and we are looking forward to hosting another seminar in the future.
